Principal's Message

Kim Prin Message

I am delighted to be in my fourth year as the proud Principal of W.E. Gowling. As an addition to the other informational materials on the website I thought I would pause to share some information about both myself and the school.

I have been an educator for 27 years. I spent the first 17 years of my career teaching in the Primary division, 15 of those years were spent teaching Kindergarten, so I am fully aware of how important a strong foundation in the early years of learning is. It is such a joy to watch our youngest students gain confidence and independence as they embark on their academic journey!

As I moved through my career, I have had the opportunity to work in inner city, RAISE schools, very large urban schools, small rural community schools and suburban schools. I have experienced very small K-Grade 5 schools and very large K-Grade 8 schools. Every one presents exciting opportunities for students, teachers and Administrators.

As an Administrator, my goal for every student is that they have a safe and exciting learning environment, surrounded by a staff who care about them and their futures and that they have equitable access to the resources they need to ensure their success both as learners and as future contributing members to our 21st century society.

Our School, W.E. Gowling was established in 1946 as part of a growing post Second Wold War community. The school has gone through many transformations over the years and has been home to Kindergarten to grade 8 students who have gone on to establish themselves in many fascinating careers. Our school population for 2016-2017 will include approximately 375 students in Junior Kindergarten to Grade 6. Our Kindergarten model for instruction has five classes. $ are alternating all day Bilingual classes and the 5th is a 50/50 split day Bilingual class. Our Early French Immersion programming is growing by one grade per year and will include Grade 1 and Grade 2. We will continue to add an additional grade each year until we reach grade 6. We also have a vibrant English program with students from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 6 and two System classes for the Primary Special Needs and General Learning Programs. We have a diverse staff and a thriving School Council! Each and every one of us is incredibly proud of our community school and love sharing it with all of the members of Carlington Community. We hope that if you have not visited us, that you will in the near future!
